Tim Barr

One Album

Tim Barr is an independent musician from New York City.
Early highlights of Tim’s career include playing bass for Lana Del Rey during the Lizzy Grant era and fronting the late 2000s band Recluse. Tim formed the band Silverbird in 2013. Around this time, he had an opportunity to study with Mike Longo, who was the pianist for the late great Dizzy Gillespie. It was Mike Longo that helped shape Tim’s musical philosophy and infuse an element of jazz into his writing style.
In the summer of 2013, Tim met and formed a lasting musical partnership with UK-based producer Kristofer Harris, singer for Story Books and whose work also includes stints with Smoke Fairies and Belle and Sebastian. Harris produced and recorded both of Silverbird’s releases- 2014’s Surface Life, and 2015’s Pureland. In 2015, Tim lived at the Fire Lotus Temple in Brooklyn. While practicing Zen he recorded the Monastery Demos, a collection of acoustic songs, which would later become the album Pureland. The debut single and video off of Pureland, Running, premiered in Noisey in 2015 and provided material for three consecutive years of CMJ concerts, two tours, and several placements, the most notable being Hollow Heart, which was featured in two separate episodes of ShowTime’s hit series Shameless.
In time, music videos were released for the Silverbird songs Sky, Smile, Hollow Heart, and Mountain, which have garnered almost a million views. Interviews and reviews have been featured in USA Today, CMJ, The Aquarian Weekly, Nylon, Line of Best Fit, Noisey and numerous other blogs from America, Europe, and Japan.
Tim’s newest track and first release as a solo artist was self-produced and recorded in Bensonhurst, Brooklyn with engineer Alan Labiner and will be released on May 2, 2019. This track, entitled First Kiss, is about secrets and the brutality of love. It is that first moment where a dysfunctional relationship begins and all else fails. The music video was directed by legendary director, Michael Maxxis (Elle King, Kurt vile, City and Colour and others), in the swamps of Staten Island and features NYC nightlife queen Sophia Lamar.

Lyrics:

I’ve been up for days amphetamine Bloodshot eyes and a dirty spleen I’m coming in like a 747 Crash land into the water disappear Haven't seen you in so many years This house hasn’t changed much since then I’ am not sleeping at night With those window panes alight And dark angels standing over me Money comes and money goes Broke another promise but nobody knows I’m like a priest at night turn the lights off Slip out into the barkyard Have a smoke and feel the stars This is where I learned to be alone I’m not sleeping at night With those window panes alight And dark angels standing over me

Lyrics:

Violent doors in my soul Open and close of their own accord But it’s easier that way Fire burns on my skin The flame rises as you walk in I’ll be there when you need me Oh those aching memories I’ll live them again someday Or some other time If just in my mind Heaven is a lullaby I’ll be there someday soon I fold into the machine Feel the wheels turn belt snaps underneath Then maybe you’ll call me Oh those aching memories I’ll live them again someday Or some other time If just in my mind Heaven is a lullaby I’ll be there someday soon Heaven is a lullaby We’ll be there someday soon

Lyrics:

I’m awake Your asleep It’s the land of milk and honey You occur Just blindly waiting For someone to come home I could not remember my name When you kissed me in the pouring rain I became everything Just a drop in the ocean of your smile I woke up Then I fell Through hundreds of years worth of hell Just to be with you You are the keeper Of the appearance The seasons strum across our face I could not remember my name When you kissed me in the pouring rain I became everything Just a drop in the ocean of your smile I woke up Then I fell Through hundreds of years worth of hell Just to be with you It’s a remembrance Of when we played baseball Walt Whitman mall and alcohol And I’ll try not to stall When I say Goodbye I become everything Just a drop in the ocean of your smile I wake up Then I fall Through hundreds of years worth of hell Just to be with you

Lyrics:

I drag my cables through burning mud banks Into your field of screaming lilacs These are the rainy seasons I don’t need any reasons I tell my secrets to the birds that sing overhead I lay my body underneath your iron bridge I let the rosary say itself I let you be all by yourself First Kiss Your First Let it touch down on my face There's no rush There’s no fuss I’ll move out when you’re wasted I won’t be there You won’t be there First Kiss Your First Let it touch down on my face There's no rush There’s no fuss I’ll move out when you’re wasted

Lyrics:

I got knifed in broad daylight Steel like fire crashing through my side You were awake as I bled my way home Want to feel your body want to steal your bones Who are you to multiply You cannot hide From the inside or the outside Lightning struck as I crossed the street Spontaneous combustion beneath the concrete You were awake as I bled my way home Want to feel your body as I steal your bones Who are you to multiply You cannot hide From the inside or the outside Who are you to multiply You cannot hide From the inside I’m addicted to you babe I’m a victim of you babe

Lyrics:

I wait alone for the Son To come undone I shoot at cages Black colors into the night God is a living kind Of burnt out spokesman I just want to know you I just want to feel good I just want to hold you Alive as you die Kiss me when I am naked Underneath the crimson kid Who swings from the rafters She’s bloody and just a mess Won’t you get undressed And find the lightswitch I just want to know you I just want to feel good I just want to hold you Alive as you die

Lyrics:

You once said There’s nowhere else you’d rather rest your head Then where men shoot up in the dark Sky full of lines Beautiful inside your dark eyes Ghosts form all around you You won't escape from me now Cause you’ve been up bending down You try to hide perfect youth Smile my darling I’m in close You don’t speak Too many words that were robbed From your mouth When God was kissing you You won’t escape from me now Cause I’ve been up bending down You try to hide perfect youth Smile my darling I’m in close I’m in close I’m in close I’m in close
