Old Wives

One Album

Old Wives as an American Rock Band – A Preamble.
As told by Abraham Lincoln’s Ghost to Lew Reid.
Old Wives is a band. At least, that is what they would have you believe. And from afar, it would certainly appear that way. The evidence is all there - they practice in basements, play shows at bars and concert halls, laid down an album’s-worth of songs in the studio to release to the world…hell, they even have t-shirts with their name emblazoned across the chest. If it looks like a band and quacks like a band…well, it almost goes without saying.
However, peeling back the layers of this glass onion reveals something beyond just another band. Sure, the pedigree is there. Jason Gleason, a proud Minnesota native, had already served as frontman for a diverse array of bands (Affinity, Sunken Ship, MouthBreath, Manifest, Coverage, CougarTooth and The Beard Cap, R.B.I.W.P, Leonard Skanerd, Toxic Rock Syndrome, Agua Menagua, Tricycle Mileage) before he was called upon to fill the void at vocalist for Florida’s Further Seems Forever to record and tour behind what many consider their best album, “How To Start A Fire”.
Along the way, Jason crossed paths with Bea (aka Bella Gleason, Crissie Verhagen, The Beard Cap) – a seasoned recording and touring artist already in her own right fronting NJ’s power-punk-pop heroes Element 101 – while out on tour together. The kindred spirits soon began anew in both musical (ActionReaction) and personal (the two married) pursuits, establishing their roots firmly into the North Jersey soil as they sought to grow beyond the constraints of the cut-and-paste mentality many in the scene around them blindly followed.

Lyrics:

I got swarms of bees flying around my head I got aching knees from my styrafoam bed Maybe just maybe I should have been dead But I ain’t superstitious and I always pay my rent Got trapieze in mind with a parachute head I spend way too much time worrying how to break bread And the funny thing is Is I spend way to much time Stuck in the mud And with my best shoes on And I once was the Marlboro man Till there was no demand I rode as fast as I could till there was no land When I got there nothing whispered in my ear And they said son best not be around here With all I fear So settle back here gonna throw me some knives And when IU arrived the world was still alive And I was still screaming Stuck in the mud And with my best shoes on Tired of the flood But we ain’t moving up We just gotta fight Stuck in the mud And with my best shoes on Tired of the flood But we ain’t moving up Stuck in the mud But we ain’t moving up Cause we’re all stuck in the mud Cause we’re all stuck in the mud

Lyrics:

we've got an overgrown kid for sale, and believe me he's got tolerance, we got an elephant, as big as a whale, and believe me he's got everything, but he's dead wrong, dead wrong, I've got to say, get on, get on, get over it, we got a wishbone, and it only costs a buck or three, we got the king of deception and the prince of deceit, and they argue in dishonesty, but he's dead wrong, dead wrong, I've got to say, get on, get on, get over it, changing the charmed, 'cause he's dead wrong, and I said "everything around us has changed, but the future says the past will remain, it's clear (x3), i feel my skin, just pulling away, down to a skeleton, I feel my skin just ripping away, ripping away, ripping away, but he's dead wrong, dead wrong, I've got to say, get on, get on, get over it, dead wrong (over and over)

Lyrics:

Blue, you're blue like a tidal wave So blue, you blew out your mind again And I often often wonder why you do what you do And it seems all together simple now that we are through And yet we sat around bright eyed Blue, you're blue like a tidal wave You're so blue that you blew out your mind again I often often wonder why you do what you do It seems altogether simple now that we are through And here we sat around bright eyed Blue So blue, so blue blue blue blue blue So blue (REPEATED) We sat around bright eyed

I gotta move on, yeah I gotta move on now If it's truth you share, or if it's truth you dare I gotta get on, I gotta turn on now I gotta get on and on and on and on and on And this sticky situation's got me out of control And I got that feel that that feeling ain't right now And I got that notion when you turn off the lights now babe Check out my photograph ... She's looking at me, oh she's looking at me I just can't get her body out of my head and I just can't get her soul on out of my bed I got that sneaky suspicion you'll come around here I got that sneaky suspicion you'll come around here That's why I'm already on my way Yeah I'm on my way down the road down the road Yeah I'm on my way down the road down the road And I got that feel that that feeling ain't right now And I got that notion when you turn off the lights now babe Check out my photograph ... She's looking at me, oh she's looking at me (REPEATED)

Lyrics:

You get me nowhere Hey I’m talking to you And you look so good honey When you’re dressed up for black and blues Every conversation I have with you Leads me to nothing new And you know and you know I’m on fire I’m on fire I’m on fire I’m on fire Feel so good It’s just like you sweet sweet sweet talking boy With that hair don’t you know Bout them hoes in outer space Who let your dreams upon And that vote of confidence I gave you Seems to be misspent Don’t you know, so you know I’m on fire I’m on fire And I don’t like dancing with you I’m on fire I’m on fire I’m on fire I’m on fire And I don’t like dancing with you I’m on fire I’m on fire And all the lies in the world wont save you boy All the truth won’t bath you Cause I’m gonna burn you Burn you burn you burn And now you know so you know I’m gonna burn you I’m on fire I’m on fire And I don’t like dancing with you I’m on fire I’m on fire I’m on fire I’m on fire And I don’t like dancing with you I’m on fire I’m on fire

Lyrics:

She got tired cause she had whiskey Open the bible pretend that you missed me Ain’t no other man will run just as fast as she can Pray for survival, you’re dead on arrival Open a suitcase nothing but boot lace in those heavy things Fall just as fast as we can And then falling and crashing again Be careful now burning out You make no sound no no When you screaming out If my California blues leaves a aching in your shoes Just walk it out You got all the money that problems can You trade in your toothache For art and for honor And we’re so choked up And we’re so choked out Well the airwaves are fighting with deadly Oh captain he’s dropping the dead weight Cause heavy things we fall just as fast as we can Be careful now burning out You make no sound no no When you’re screaming out In my elementary school left me shaking in my boots So help me out Why you always acting like you don’t know who you are You better ready your home When that phone rings And the phone calls you She’ll be speaking in tongue And find cause be careful now Burning out You make no sound no no When you’re screaming out If my California blues leaves a aching in your shoes Just walk it out In my elementary school left me shaking in my boots And when there’s nothing left to but cower and carouse Oh walk on out Walk on out Just walk on out Help me out Help me out

Lyrics:

are you ready, does your stomach feel odd, did the holy roller what you chose, did my head turn, that is what I came here for, 'cause I want to sing my satisfaction song, it's so easy, so easy to fall in love, it's so easy, with the blinds on, and that is what I came here for, cuz I just wanted to see you lately (x2), so just take my hand, I 'll take the wheel, we'll crucify the avenues we walk on, and you don't gotta hold me down to sign my name in blood, that is what came here for, if I go into the city, and I got both feet in my mouth now, cuz I just wanted to see you lately, I just wanted to see you lately, and that is what I came here for, I want to sing my satisfaction song, I've got all my feet in my mouth, and If I drive into the city, I've got both my feet in my mouth, and if I never see you again, don't take it the wrong way, and if I never come back to you, don't take it the wrong way
